The Flooring Conversation You Didn't Know You Needed
Whether you are remodeling or building a new home, you are faced with hundreds - if not thousands - of decisions. One of the more significant investments of your project is hard flooring, as it's often the most challenging to replace once cabinetry has been installed.
Needless to say, flooring selection is one of those choices you need to nail correctly on the first try. We're here to help with that.
Real Hardwood
Contrary to popular belief, we interior designers are not completely and solely on Team Hardwood. Sure, it's beautiful, but it's not the best solution for every situation. If you're after a timeless aesthetic that will increase the value of your home and you don't mind routine maintenance, hardwood can be an excellent choice.
However, if the idea of sanding / refinishing to remove inevitable scratches and dents isn't your idea of a good time, you might want to consider other options, especially if you live in a humid climate or if the space in question tends to be high-moisture (kitchens, baths, indoor water features or pools).
Engineered Hardwood
Typically less expensive than real hardwood, engineered hardwood is more resilient to moisture but can only be sanded and refinished a limited number of times. The number of times it can be refinished largely depends on the thickness of the wood veneer.
Similar to hardwood, this flooring is also prone to dents and scratches. To that, we say c'est la vie (or, that's life). If you love the earthy, inviting aesthetic of wood, engineered hardwood can be a completely worthy investment.
Luxury Vinyl Planks
Luxury vinyl planks, or LVP, has been a darling of the design industry for its resilience and variation. The most moisture-proof of all these flooring options, LVP is still not going to be as durable as genuine hardwood in the long term and will, of course, appear less authentic.
However, LVP's lower price point for both the product and its installation, as well as its low maintenance requirements, continue to make it a popular choice for homeowners who have young children and indoor pets. When we help you select flooring for your space, we'll consider both your budget and your lifestyle to help you make the best choice.
