If you pay attention sometimes you just know when the time is right. We were experiencing “empty nest” at our house as my son, Shelton, headed off for college at Texas A & M University. It was the perfect opportunity to move. Not to get away from our son mind you (smile), but to take the opportunity to do something I’d dreamed of doing for a long time - purchase and flip a house.

Circle C had been our home ever since Shelton was a baby, and though it had been a great neighborhood for raising kids, I was ready for something new. My husband was not. A creature of habit, he hates change. I, however, had stayed in one place well beyond the expiration date solely to benefit my son and to appease my husband.

In the end, however, I won because... of course. We put our home on the market and it sold after one day, over asking price.

Suddenly, we had to go into search mode, on a quest to find an ugly house to flip. And boy, the first three we found were awful - one reminiscent of the house in Silence of the Lambs. We were pretty discouraged, and for a moment I was wondering if we’d made the right decision.

The next morning however, was Sunday. Yep, a day dedicated to new beginnings. When we sat down at the computer to see what was available, up popped the perfect home to flip – a 1983, Mid-Century Modern Style home, with everything original. This beauty sat on 2.5 acres in Dripping Springs, on a hill and covered with trees. It was love at first sight for my husband.

Yes, I reminded him that this was just the first of many homes we would be renovating before settling on our final abode, but he never heard a word. At this point I knew I had a problem, but I also knew I had a great idea. Our constant “back and forth” over the property became our Flipped-Out video series that documented the renovations as well as our struggle of whether to keep the house or sell. Something with which a lot of people can identify.

Watch our series on this site or go to YouTube and see all the changes as our home transforms from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. All the furnishing you see pictured in the home were sourced from Robin Bond Interiors.

Spoiler alert we kept the home, but the process of deciding really was a struggle. It wasn’t just our home that changed. (Smile)
